Aberdeen International Airport

WINNER

Aberdeen International Airport continued to strengthen its role as a regional lifeline in 2024, supporting 2.4 million passengers and delivering wide-ranging improvements. It maintained a CAA ‘Good’ rating for PRM services and invested in Next Generation Security Scanners while continuing its successful Campus Watch safety programme with Police Scotland. AIA also marked its 90th anniversary with a year of community-focused celebrations, raising over £65,000 — much of it for AberNecessities, a charity supporting underprivileged children. It ran its biggest-ever Runway Run and supported 24 local groups via its ABZ Propeller Fund. AIA also advanced youth development through the DYW Young Person’s Guarantee. In sustainability, Aberdeen reached carbon neutrality for direct emissions and Level 3+ Airport Carbon Accreditation. It transitioned its vehicle fleet to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), cutting emissions dramatically, and ordered electric replacements for petrol vehicles. This well-rounded approach combined environmental leadership, community value, and enhanced passenger experience.
